We’re delighted our long-term sustainability partnership with Watson, Farley and Williams has been recognised in the Innovation in ESG category at the prestigious Legal Innovation Awards

The Legal Innovation Awards, who recognise excellence in innovation from private practice and in-house departments, shortlisted WFW after the firm funded global access to Giki, allowing colleagues to understand, track and reduce their carbon footprint.

Working together, we aim to support the creation of an ‘Individual Action’ pillar for WFW’s sustainability plan, engage at least 20% of the firm in individual climate action, and build on existing efforts to create a more environmentally sustainable firm.

The team so far completed almost 150 sustainability steps to reduce carbon, saving over five tonnes of CO2e – the equivalent of driving 25,000 miles in a family-sized car. Furthermore, WFW colleagues have committed to completing additional steps that will result in a further saving of over nine tonnes of CO2e.

In addition to carbon savings through challenges relating to food, transport, and purchases, the team at WFW has also saved over 200,000 litres of water, equivalent to running over 2,500 baths and committed to completing steps resulting in an additional saving of over 1,000,000 litres. They have also removed over 3,000 single-use plastic items through their completed steps with a commitment to remove an additional 2,000!

“We’re delighted to be working with the team at Watson Farley Williams. They’ve embraced building sustainable behaviours with significant achievements and saving on water, and land, and demonstrably making more sustainable choices at home and in the workplace.

It’s exciting to see sustainability embedded in their overarching strategy and how that is now being rolled out operationally in what we recognise as an innovative and exciting employee sustainability engagement programme for the legal sector.”

Jo Hand, Giki Co Founder and Director of Climate Impact

Giki will be an integral part of the firm’s Carbon Management Plan, supporting colleagues to make sustainable choices in the workplace and at home in line with the ‘Practices’ pillar of their Sustainability strategy, which reflects its commitment to running the firm sustainably.

This is fantastic recognition of truly impactful work, and everyone at Giki is so excited on behalf of WFW.
