How Ecology reached almost 100% employee engagement to make an impact

Ecology is already an organisation making big moves in the climate crisis. A building society committed to improving the environment by supporting ecological building practices and sustainable communities. But they wanted to do more.
Ecology wanted to help their colleagues learn more about what they could do about climate change and raise awareness of the impact of their carbon footprint. They chose Giki because it offered an easy-to-use, fun, and scientifically backed platform that the Ecology team could access anytime and anywhere to create long-term behaviour change and drive collective action that they could measure and report.
What we did
To kick things off, we launched Giki Zero Pro across the organisation using key environmental events, such as Earth Day and World Environment Day to increase awareness, drive actions and educate colleagues on the issues around climate change. This included a bespoke event for their staff led by our in-house climate experts. Ecology embraced the leader boards, creating more engagement and more steps taken, and at the same time providing a platform that all their colleagues could use to learn from each other.
Recognising the importance of creating climate-consciousness embedded in the organisations culture we supported Ecology to onboard every single member of their staff (including new starters as part of their induction process) onto Giki. Key to this was building capacity and support at C-suite, with their directors also taking part in teams and campaigns.
An appointed Chief Greenie received full support from Giki with regular calls, membership to the global network of Chief Greenies to exchange best practice tips, and ongoing support to help all colleagues feel involved and motivated. As trusted strategic partners in helping them reduce their impact on the climate, we have supported shareholders, stakeholders and customers through providing workshops and expert opinions at their events.
The platform is beautiful and easy-to-use, and we trust it to help us towards our net-zero carbon goals
The impact
The Ecology team had incredibly successful results, with almost 100% engagement and participation across their organisation.
They now have measurable successes in saving water and cutting carbon, If they continue this fantastic work, they could cut more carbon than their total day-to-day business CO2 emissions in just two years.
